Summer Humanities Institute at UCLA

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Juniors, seniors, and students who have just completed a BA (degree in any field) AND have not yet begun his/her first year of a graduate school program.
  • Students should plan to pursue a graduate degree in the Humanities or Humanistic Social Sciences  (History, English, Art History, and Political Science).
  • Areas NOT eligible: Law, Psychology, Science, etc.
  • Students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are welcome to apply

 

FUNDING IS AVAILABLE:

  • The following expenses are covered by UCLA: transportation, lodging, and meals.  Stipend also paid.  (Check website for final updates)

DEADLINE:

  • February 7, 2008

 

HOW TO APPLY:

 

  • Application materials are submitted to both SHI and the UCLA Graduate Division (SPUR).  Links for both applications can be found under the SHI icon.

PROGRAM PURPOSE:

The program will provide two core activities:

1)   instruction on new humanistic scholarship
2)  skills workshops to enhance preparatory competencies for graduate school.

FACULTY:

Please note: The Summer Humanities Institute will make mentor-student matches, not students. Unlike the UCLA Graduate Division, we will pair students with a faculty mentor who will provide guidance and direction on a student-selected research project. We will make the mentor-student match based on the student’s general research area and faculty availability.
